Reasons why Materialist scientist's don't accept the evidence for Psi and the Afterlife

Here are some of the reasons I can think of

1. The assumption that the Universe is closed so Psi Phenomenon and the possibility of an afterlife are completely ruled out.
2. Because as children they found out that Santa Claus wasn't real that must mean that anything that seems to good to be true must be false even if the evidence is very good.
3. Guerilla Skepticism a group of people who's agenda is to try to overshadow evidence they don't agree with
